Biography

How It All Began

Severed Angel is a metal band from the Northeastern United States (NY and PA) forged to unleash a sonic assault of melodic heavy metal upon the masses.

In 2018, drummer Wayne Noon started The Rat Salad Review Podcast to promote his favorite artists and bands, and (above all) have fun with a podcast that provides insight to artists that are not promoted by the mainstream music press. Some of those bands included Timeless Haunt (PA), The Nightmare Stage (NY), Infinite Spectrum (NY), and Tension Rising (NY).

As the original drummer for Phoenix Reign, a NYC-based power metal band, they released an album called “Destination Unknown” and toured around the tri-state area. Their final show was at the Gramercy Theater in NYC opening for international recording artists Epica.

In 2019, guitarist Lou Mavs started his podcast (The Music Is Life Podcast) discussing his opinions and experience as a musician. Wayne and Lou were friends from the time Phoenix Reign was playing shows in Lou’s native Queens, NY in the early 2000s. Wayne asked Lou if he would join The Rat Salad Review Podcast as a co-host, to which he did.

In late 2020, Wayne was preparing the release of his new band Project Resurrect. It was around that time that the music world suffered the loss of Edward Van Halen. Lou and Wayne suggested that they cover a Van Halen song as a tribute to Eddie, and enlisted the services of Timeless Haunt bassist George Dimitri and Thrash or Die/Combat vocalist Ralph Viera. The cover of “Atomic Punk” was released to positive responses. 2021 saw the release of Project Resurrect’s “False Reality” CD and Rat Salad Review & Friends’ “Cover Series, Part 1” EP.

In early 2022, Wayne suggested forming a new original band with Lou, George, The Nightmare Stage keyboardist Marc Muchnik, and Infinite Spectrum bassist/songwriter Alex Repetti (also of Tension Rising and Project S.E.A.R.), Lou provided an original demo written 12 years ago called “Dogs of War,” which was written as entrance music for his cousin - MMA fighter/US Army Ranger Robby Plotkin. Wayne thought the song was perfect for this new project. He then arranged a new version of it, to which Marc and Alex wrote lyrics, and Lou re-recorded his parts. Upon completion of the song, it was official - Severed Angel was born.

Within 3 months, they wrote their entire first album. After that was completed, Severed Angel started working on more material, which were all released as singles: “A Fate Worse Than Death,” “Run and Hyde,” “Bump In The Night,” and "Mt. Cyandie."

The Deluxe Edition of their self-titled debut CD was released independently on May 2nd, 2023.

Their second independently-released album "Skyward" was released on May 3rd, 2024, and charted
Metal Contraband Top 7 and NACC Heavy Top 25.

Their third album “When Eternity Ends” will be released on March 28th, 2025 through NoLifeTilMetal Records.

Marc Muchnik

Keyboards

Wayne met Marc through his father in-law, telling him about a guy in the school he works at that listens to heavy metal. Marc handed Wayne’s father in-law one of their CDs, and Marc would come on Wayne’s Rat Salad Review podcast to talk about it. Marc would even join on a few episodes from time to time.

With his bands on hold at the moment, Marc messaged Wayne to see if he was working on any new music. Wayne told him about a new band in the works that would become Severed Angel, and Marc was eager to get started.

Not only is Marc a musician but he is a school psychologist who works with young children. He is also a co-author of the plant based cookbook "HarmonEAyT" with his wife Lisa (author of "Rainbow Panda"), as well as a certified yoga instructor.

Wayne Noon

drums

Wayne started playing drums around 10 years old. Self-taught and Influenced early on by bands like Def Leppard and Led Zeppelin, he would soon get into heavier bands like Metallica and Megadeth. A friend then turned him on to Helloween, and Wayne adapted his drumming to a more European style of Power Metal.

Wayne brought that style into his first real band in 1998 called Phoenix Reign. They would release one full length album entitled “Destination Unknown.” Wayne decided to leave the band after their biggest show opening for Epica to a sold out crowd at the Gramercy Theater in NYC in 2010.

In 2015, Wayne wanted to get a new band going, but found it hard to keep people interested. He decided to just make a 2-man band with his friend Pete Rigopoulos, which would turn into Project Resurrect. Their debut album “False Reality” was released in 2021. Stan Ev, a friend and musician from Brooklyn, suggested Alex Repetti to mix the album.

With Project Resurrect filling a musical void, Wayne wanted to continue making music and started releasing cover songs with Lou Mavs and George Dimitri with various other musicians who have been part of Wayne’s Rat Salad Review podcast.

Out of those cover songs, Severed Angel was born. Wayne wanted to work on original music with Lou and George. Marc and Alex were added, and the rest is history.
